Surge allows you to monitor the Uber surge at your current location or a fixed location. You will be able to receive notifications when a surge starts, increases/decreases, and ends. Surge supports fine grained notification settings. You can specify the Surge minimum to be notified and what type of notifications to receive. Surge also supports a Today Widget, showing you the surge value at your current location. Be sure to follow our Twitter and Facebook feed for updates. An Uber account is required in order to authenticate with the Uber API. You don't need to use a driver account, you can use a rider account. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

    It the best app ever
  • Notifications and surge tracking stops even with premium

    By Niclisten
The app is either broken, no longer supported or Uber places a restriction on how many alerts you can get. Whatever the case, paying for a subscription was initially worth it - until it stopped working. It’s also not just me. After recommending the app, four other people I know say it has also stopped working.
  • Avoid paying for this APP

Tried paid service and not getting any notifications per my > 2x settings Emailed customer service 24-hours ago and clearly described problem with attached screen shot and NO response.
  • Avoid subscription, but free version is useful

Use it for free and you’ll still get to use one helpful feature that can give you an edge as a driver: displaying the active surge multiplier for your current location. This is great for riders who want to monitor their bills and try to wait out a surge, but it’s also helpful for drivers who cannot see any surge levels while they are in the middle of a trip with a passenger. Being able to see the current surge level as you drive your current passenger is very useful for determining whether or not to accept the next trip without seeing the entire maps surges. Knowing the current surge gives you an idea of whether the surge level will be better or worse in the 5-20 minutes it’ll take to drop off your current passenger. If I’m getting pinged with the next trip while I continue on my current trip, checking the current surge level on this app helps me decide whether to accept it or reject it and stop the incoming pings until after I’ve dropped off the passenger. This strategy of waiting to accept the next trip before the current one is complete can maximize your earnings, especially on busy weekend nights when you know surge will spike around 2a.m. and die by 3:00a.m., or conversely, knowing that the next trips pickup location will die down by the time you’re done a current trip means that accepting during your trip and locking it in then and there enables you to use your time effectively and ride the surge to its potential. This app provides access to an otherwise unavailable metric thats great to consider when you strategize your next accepted trip. I wish I could have that metric for more locations than just my current one, but apparently the paid subscription no longer offers that or anything else that’s remotely useful. During the writing of this review (2/18/18), it appears the developers aren't responding to customer concerns and are not actively working to improve the app or incentivize potential subscribers. If progress is made in that regard, I would pay for the subscription and revise my review. Maybe I’ll just make my own app. Who needs these nerds anyways?
  • It's ok

It used to be 100 times better last year. Now it's just good enough to pay for
  • I like it

  • No longer works

This app used to work brilliantly 2 years ago; however, that is no longer the case. New Years Eve 2017 surge in my city was lit up like a Christmas tree, but the app showed “no surge” anywhere in town (I even paid for premium service). And even on New Years Day 2018 where only the airport was surging ... app didn’t show any surge. *glad I didn’t pay for more than 1 month of premium. **I don’t chase surge, but this app was handy when it worked.
  • No notifications

    By Denny's Dory
When does the notifications come up for the surges? Is it going to come up so that I have time to get to the surgery? And will it give me a notification if I’m using another app?
