Works well. Love the word a day.
  • great Italian dictionary

I use this dictionary daily to help me with not only translations but idioms phrases and nuanced usages. I own the advanced version which costs $20 and well worth it, however at on point it reverted to the free version and it took a long time to straighten out the issue with tech support. Otherwise all good.
  • Bait and switch — not really Oxford

    By discerning learner
I understand that this dictionary is based on the Oxford print volume of the same name. However that does not mean that it has the same content. It either has the same content or it doesn’t. This app doesn’t. It only has a subset of the content, and it is not arranged in an intelligent way as would be expected in a modern app. Therefore, the buyer should beware. What this app really represents is a profitable arrangement between those with copyright to the good Oxford Dictionary name and those who want to write a relatively easy app to take advantage of it. I fell for that, but you should not. In a modern app there should be links that enable you to connect to all the content, even if you don’t put in the best search term. Here’s a simple example: put in a conjugated form of the verb “to go” such as “andiamo”. You would think that the system would be intelligent enough to connect you to on “andare”. But that’s because you’re used to well-made apps. What you will get with this app is a blank, no result, nothing, as if that word did not exist. In other words as one learning the Italian language you are expected to know the infinitive form of whatever verb you’re looking up. That might’ve made sense in the old days with print editions, but with this modern age of intelligent apps, there’s really no excuse. That’s just one reason why this app deserves one star. You might also expect that a dictionary of the stature would have well laid out conjugation tables. Yes it does have something similar but the presentation is so poor that it’s a joke. Another feature you might expect would be etymology so that you can have a deeper understanding of why a word means what it does. Forget about that—you’re not gonna find it here. I have found time and again that google translate or online dictionaries or other search tools do a much better job at helping me find the answer I want. In that regard you may be tempted to point to the off-line feature of this dictionary. If you read the reviews carefully you will see several hints that that feature does not work well. I myself have had several episodes where I had no internet service and this app simply did not work. Crashed as soon as it started. Furthermore even when I do have Internet service I can tell from the delay in searching that it must be accessing the web. In brief I am very disappointed with this product and I can only hope that my experience helps others from making the same mistake I did. The only good feature that I find about this app is that it does list many usage examples for a particular word. I honestly appreciate that, and it’s the only reason I use it. Other than that, just use free alternatives and you’ll be just as well off plus have $20+ spending money
  • Good Dictionary, No extra features

    By SF Public Library User
Good dictionary, I really liked the talk to translate feature, but then the app developers took this feature away and now charge monthly for the talk to translate. Dictionary is still good, but don’t expect any extra features. Also, the word of the day is random and half the time it’s an English word that doesn’t translate very well like a name. Not the best implementation of a word of the day feature.
  • Wonderful dictionary, clear, and comprehensive

  • Great Dictionary

This dictionary has a great layout and talk to text functionality in addition to it being a quality reference material. Lots of information on usage, which is much more helpful than google translate for someone trying to better understand the language. Quest è la migliore scelta!

  • Love it

This is my favorite app. So many so-called dictionaries give one word or overly simple definitions. This one, like it’s huge hardcover version, gives comprehensive information on every word. It’s like a portable language textbook at your fingertips. Many definitions begin with a paragraph about subtle differences in usage. The many examples help a beginner like me understand how the word is used in sentences. Other favorite functions: tap any word in the definition or example and you are sent to its definition. If it’s a verb, there is a link to a page with info on tenses. Another tap and you can hear the pronunciation. There are links to grammar explanations. Like all similar apps it’s fast. But I love to explore the relationships between words and subtle synonyms. If I search from the English side I can take that info to the Italian side and study it further.........I could go on and on. Love it!
