Description

From the makers of Pokémon GO, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is the real-world augmented reality (AR) game inspired by the Wizarding World that puts magic in the hands of players worldwide. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is co-developed and co-published by Niantic, Inc. and WB Games San Francisco as part of Portkey Games, a label dedicated to creating new Wizarding World mobile and video games inspired by J.K. Rowling's original stories that place players at the center of their own adventure. Realize Your Wizarding Potential A calamity has befallen the wizarding world, causing Foundables—magical artefacts, creatures, people, and even memories—to mysteriously appear in the Muggle world. As a new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, you’ll work with witches and wizards from across the globe to solve the mystery of The Calamity and keep magic safe from Muggle eyes. The Magic Is All Around You As you step outside and explore the world, the Map will reveal Traces of magic that indicate the location of Foundables. These Traces are found at various real-world locations and trigger richly detailed 3D encounters in full 360-degree advanced AR. You’ll need to cast a variety of spells to defeat the confounding magic surrounding the Foundables in order to safely return them to the wizarding world. Keep an eye out for other things that will aid you on your journey including Inns that replenish Spell Energy, ingredients that can be used to brew potions, and even Portkeys that can whisk you away to iconic wizarding world locations. Stronger United Gather your friends to take on even bigger magical feats such as Wizarding Challenges, real-time cooperative multiplayer battles against dangerous foes. To overcome the stronger threats and discover rarer Foundables, you’ll need to team up and strategize with your fellow witches and wizards and specialize in different magical Professions—Auror, Magizoologist, and Professor—that each have their own unique skills and abilities that come in handy at different times. With the player’s permission, Adventure Sync uses the Health Kit to enable the player to earn walking distance when the app is closed. Ready your wand, alert your friends, and be ready to protect the wizarding world from a global calamity. Your Wizarding adventure awaits! Stay tuned for the latest at WizardsUnite.com

So on your character you can’t really customize it at all. It takes your house colour and makes your avatar that colour. I would appreciate if I could make the avatar unique to me. Thanks for your time love.

Used to love playing, especially with events. Though now the events want you to gain so much experience with certain foundable families to complete the event. The frustrating part comes in that the past two events, foundables that would be needed to complete the challenges just don’t spawn regularly and even when they do the experience for that category is laughable. When you need care of magical creatures foundables, but you only get one or two even when using the trace potion, it makes it not enjoyable. Thought they had made some great changes with challenges and allowing for things to be played at home, but now its just not fun anymore if you want to complete the events.
  • ACTUAL SCORE: NEGATIVE TWO.

Ingredients still don’t spawn rurally, and every event (almost the only reason I still play) requires you to pick up an ingredient or portmanteau—often multiple times during the event. I’m trapped in the US and I happen to live with someone who suffers COPD and diabetes, so I can’t be like these fascists and pretend that Covid is a hoax. So I need Niantic to be an ally, not help Trump and Bolsonaro try to kill my dad. Every event that fails to fix this is going to start costing the game another star. I know that Apple doesn’t allow for negative star ratings (because they also aren’t an ally), but I’ll note this in the review title. What else is wrong that doesn’t need to be at all? 1. That dark screen that appears whenever you pick up an item, portmanteau, or potion (even if you brewed it yourself)? Yeah, that’s not clarifying anything. It just makes the game subtly even more unpleasant. Not a change they needed to make. Put it back the way it was. 2. The past two events have required getting a certain amount of one kind of experience point to get, and that means playing the game way more than I want to to complete the event. Was everybody being able to complete events..a problem? Is it necessary that the game be fun for fewer people? Hint: NO, this is STUPID, put it back and stop taking steps away from a better game. 3. This one has been a problem for a while: why would I have push notifications turned on if the game doesn’t tell me when an event is about to start? Not Community Weekend or whatever the hell, I don’t care about those, there’s no story exposition or character development in those. I mean the actual events that are now, since the SOS missions have dried up, the only way this game expands on the lore of the Wizarding World. I need a push the second that ish goes live, even if it’s the middle of the night (YOU let ME worry about turning off nighttime notifications). Other than that, yeah the graphics are great and the writing is good and Potterheads will love the ways it expands on the Wizarding World, and it runs more smoothly and responsively than Ingress and Pokemon Go. But as long as its developers continue to decide that this game is more valuable as a health hazard than a game, who cares?

Spell energy is still a major concern but being able to pick up 3 or 5 spell energy from the ground is better. Increasing your spell energy capacity is a must, but getting enough gold to upgrade it is super slow. The main frustration in this game is collecting foundables. It’s still extremely random in catching one or not. It still seems that doing a masterful trace has no benefit in comparison to doing a good or great trace. You either have to get lucky catching the foundable within 1-3 spells cast or you have to ALWAYS be using a potion to lower the threat level. Even when you have a potion activated you still may be spending a ton of spell energy catching it or worse, it flees right away. WHAT IS REALLY EFFECTING THE CHANCES OF CATCHING THEM!? The worst thing is it seems you always have to use a Dawdle Drought to prevent it from fleeing, a potent potion to lower the threat level as low as possible AND then still hope you don’t spend a ton of energy trying to catch it. Often times I’d have to use 2 or 3 potions on one foundable. This “catching algorithm” seems to be much worse than Pokémon Go. The events are nice in the sense it increases appearance rate for certain foundable groups. Reusing the same artwork and animation is lazy and gets boring fast. The best thing about this game continues to be fighting in the fortresses. I like having friends come together to work on taking down all the foes. I do wish we had more variety of spells to cast to both help our team and effect the enemies. I don’t even care about the story. It doesn’t matter because it seems so improbable. Having this calamity be completely unknown is so odd since the book series made Hermione so smart. The calamity will obviously not have an end because that would mean an end to the game so we are stuck with clueless, incompetent Hermione, Harry and other Ministry officials. It’s annoying that since launch everyone has been saying what’s frustrating about this game and they have only fixed those issues in a small way.

From the glitches, to the ridiculous amount of departures, to outrageous catch rates despite potions.
  • Taking too long to load

I’ve had this game for two days now and I still haven’t seen anything other than the loading screen I’ve deleted and reinstalled it but no matter where I am it doesn’t load

I really do love this game but I’m frustrated with the challenges they put out. It always says to collect a certain amount of XP. However, it doesn’t count the amount of XP per foundable you catch. It only gives you 1-3 XP. Which means you have to catch 300 or more foundables. It’s getting ridiculous. You can never pass the challenge to collect all the fragments needed.
