After 3 days app failed. Questions stink can be answered without reading book. Don't bother
  • App works great, easy to use, but question quality could be better.

First off, I didn't have any problems opening or using the app as a couple of other reviewers stated. The app started right up every time I used it. Functionally, the app works quite well. The interface is clean, it's easy to get around, and the study deck feature is nice. With an app of this type however, the interface is only one tiny aspect of the app's functionality. The most important part of any Exam Prep app/software is the actual content. The actual content of the app is where the disappointment started. The quality of the questions is very erratic. To be fair, there are some very, very good questions. I don't remember which chapter it was, but the first batch of questions I started answering after I bought the app were very good. I remember thinking "wow, IFSTA really stepped up the quality of the questions this time". I could actually see those questions being used on a test. After that group though, the quality of the questions started falling off sharply. The erratic question quality falls into three basic areas: question wording, question selection, and distractor quality. Some of the questions (and their associated answers) are so poorly worded that it's hard to tell what the correct answer should be, even with the book opened to the page the question is from. Then there are questions that are simply poorly chosen and seem to emphasize inane aspects of the material that I can't possibly imagine being on any test. Still, there may be value in that for some because I have taken promotional tests with weird question selection. Finally there are the "are you kidding me" questions. These are the questions where the distractors (incorrect answer choices) are worded in such an obvious manner they can be answered without reading the material. In my opinion, there is no excuse this as it boils down to sheer laziness on the part of the test creators. It's also nothing new for the IFSTA practice tests. Obvious distractors were something I noticed more than 10 years ago while using the old CD-ROM-based IFSTA practice tests for a different exam. I honestly don't know if the question quatlity is a product of laziness or because IFSTA doesn't want to do "too good a job" of preparing people for a Company Officer test. Either way it's annoying. The only reason I gave the IFSTA product another shot is becaue it was only $10. Had it been more, I would have skipped it. In the end, the app is a mixed bag. While the IFSTA app is a bit cleaner looking, my personal opinion is that the FlashFire app has a much higher quality question database. You might want to check that app out as well.

Great when I first started using it. Now on the third day it won't open.
